Original News Article

Give students the opportunity to research and locate the original news story covering the murder case of John Hossack, written by Susan Glaspell. How do the crimes compare? Students will write a 1-2 page paper discussing the article and basis of the story.

Draw a Character

Have students draw their interpretation of a character from the story. Artistic ability is not important, but their drawings must reflect the type of costume worn by the character, whether the character is fat or thin, bald, prim or slovenly. What colors does the characters wear?

Costume Day

Students should research the period style of dress from the story and create (with parents' permission) a version of a costume that resembles this period. Students can bring costumes to class for a costume day.
