Objective: In Act 1, Scene 1, graffiti was common to the 1960s and 1970s anti-Vietnam War movement, and the updating and staging of the story of the last days of Jesus is both spectacular and moving. This lesson will discuss these updates.

1) Class Discussion: How has the story been updated?

Small Group Activity: Why has the story been updated? Does this enhance the story? Why or why not?

Class Discussion: Share the groups' thoughts about the updates, such as graffiti, contemporary costuming, lighting, set design, and dialogue, and whether or not they enhance the story. Do these updates make the story more relevant? Could this story be just as affective if it had been created as a period piece? Why or why not?
