The people of England prefer King Richard over his brother, Prince John, because Richard is seen as a fair ruler, whereas John attempts to desecrate and demean the Saxons. John is also greedy and has various methods for stealing land from the Saxon people.

3. Who are Gurth and Wamba, and what do they discuss when introduced to the story?

Gurth and Wamba are two of Cedric the Saxon's employees. Gurth is a swineherd and Wamba is a jester. When these characters are introduced to the story, they are discussing the battle which is brewing in England between the Norman rulers and the Saxon population.
