Saul is at the New Dawn Centre for alcohol. He has been urged to write his story down as part of the healing process since he does not wish to talk about it.

2. What is the story of Saul’s great-grandfather Shabogeesick and the horse he brought to his people?

Shabogeesick brought a horse to his people in the Winnipeg River after a long journey. They had never seen a horse before, so he showed them how to use it — for travel and carrying loads. The People saw the horse as sacred and Shabogeesick said it spoke to him telling him of a great change coming to them that will “scorch” (7) their lives.

3. How did Saul’s family come to be called Indian Horse?

When the white man, or the Zhaunagush, came to their camp they asked where the horse had come from. They were show to Shabogeesick and the Zhaunagush began calling him Indian Horse.
