Mirror

This symbol occurs on two occasions in the story. Once when Nasrin and Sahar stand before it and another during Nasrin's wedding when she and her husband sit before it and see themselves together as bride and groom.

Nasrin's Engagement Ring

This is the first indication to Sahar that Nasrin is going to be married. However, Nasrin does not wear it around Sahar after she first sees it.

Bathroom

Many emotional moments occur in this space throughout the novel. Nasrin and Sahar both hide out here when they are overcome with emotions. As well, they have several intimate moments in this place.

Sugar Cube

Sahar is made to grind this over Nasrin and Reza during their wedding ceremony to ensure the couple a sweet marriage.
