Dialogue Project

Many characters die in the novel. Pick three characters who die and write a short scene, using dialogue, of what their conversation would be like if they were to meet in heaven.

Eulogy Project

Pretend you have been asked to write a eulogy for Freud. Write something that could be said at his funeral; it should be at least one page. Be prepared to read your eulogy aloud to the class.

Chapter Title Project

John Irving is known for his witty chapter titles. Go through the entire book and rename each chapter with a new title that still matches Irving's simultaneous sense of humor and seriousness. Be prepared to share your titles with the class.
