• Trigger Warning: child abduction and murder, rape, suicide mentioned in passing--no graphic detail. A gun murder and PTSD are vividly described in Chapters Forty-One through Forty-Three.
• The book is arranged into sections labeled with times: "One Month Later, Thursday," "Saturday," "Sunday: 2 Days Missing," and so on. Within each section there are numbered chapters.
• A map of the fictional town of Fairview, Connecticut precedes the prologue, "After and Before."
• "After and Before," the prologue, begins with third-person narration focused on the perspective of Pippa Fitz-Amobi, the protagonist.
