Objective: Listen, Lord--A Prayer James Johnson was a diplomat and civil rights leader. Johnson recreates his favorite scriptures into verse in his book. Today's objective will study the autobiographical information of Johnson and how it might relate to the poems in this collection.

1) Class Discussion: This book recreates Johnson's favorite scriptures into verse. Do you know anything about the author, James Johnson? James Johnson was a leader with the NAACP. He also served as the principal of the school he graduated from. What from the title do you gather about Johnson? Is he a religious man? What might his cultural history be like?
