Chapters 1-6

• In Chapter 1, Gertie finds a half-dead bullfrog, and she takes it home and resuscitates him with a turkey baster.
• Gertie’s Aunt Rae wonders what Gertie is doing, and Gertie tells her that she brought the frog back so that he “could become a miracle of science” (5).
• Gertie puts the frog in a shoebox with some nice wet leaves.
• Then she collects bugs from under the bug zapper to feed the bullfrog.
• Gertie has a mission, and she always completes her missions.
• She is going to be the greatest fifth greater in the world.
• In Chapter 2, Gertie wants to be the greatest fifth grader in the world, because two days before she resuscitated the frog, she saw...
