Objective
The objective of this lesson is to examine the dream that Gretel has in "Beyond the Black Stump," and what the dream represents. After Gretel finds her mother, she begins having a dream. She dreams that she is in her office, but it is very different.

Class Discussion: When does Gretel begin having the dream she mentions on page 34? Why is it important that the dream began after Gretel found her mother? How is the place in the dream like and unlike Gretel's office where she works? What does she find in the metal filing cabinets? What are on the walls and floors? Where is a light on? Why does Gretel realize that she is dreaming as she walks through her office in her mind? How are things different from what her office is actually like? What does that difference seem to represent?
