1. Explain the story behind Kath's son.

Kath falls in love with her brother Ed's "mate" when they are young and sleeps with him. She becomes pregnant, and her brother arranges for an adoption once the baby is born. It is stated that the baby dies in a tragedy, but it is never explained how.

2. Describe the character of Sloane. How old is he? What is his appearance like?

Sloane is a 20-year-old drifter. He is attractive, with blond hair, which seemingly is died to protect his identity for his previous crime. This is noted when Kath discovers the dark hair on his legs. He is remarked as having "delicate skin".

3. List an example (or two) of subtext in the play. What are the character's words and what is implied by them?

When Kath says, "I'd love to have you", it is implied that she means so sexually. Later in the play Ed remarks that he wants to share his "principles" with Sloane, implying sex as well.
