1. What is the significance of the spice?

The spice possesses a chemistry that allows its users to unravel time. Through the spice, navigators can bend space to travel incredible distances and the Sisterhood can use its powers of control to bend others to its will. It also grants some of its users the power of prophesy and prediction.

2. What has Paul Atreides accomplished?

Paul, or Muad'dib, established an empire that toppled the previous empire and removed the hostile Harkonnen house from the planet Arrakis. He placed his sister on the throne considered sacred by the Sisterhood, and his forces have conquered all but a small part of galactic humanity.

3. Why do you think that perfectly predicting the future is fatal?

Perfectly predicting the future causes one to become a prisoner, or a victim, or his or her own fate. By being able to see the future but being unable to alter or change it, one is reduced to merely becoming a passive observer of one's path rather than being the one to walk it. Additionally, attempting to alter the future winds the webs of time tighter and tighter around a person as he/she becomes trapped by his/her choices and the complexity of his/her future.
