Heroes

Find information on Thoreau and Emerson, and do a short comparison of their values and ideas to those of Edward Abbey, and present to the class with your examples.

Botany

Obtain and grow a cactus or make a small cactus garden. Note the progress and speed with which they grow (or not), their blooming season and their qualities. Figure out how they manage to live through months with no water and blistering heat.

Desert

Make a papier mache model of the Maze Abbey describes, or any other particular feature in the desert, such as the Arches. Try to include as many geological features as possible, and paint the model with some of the colors Abbey describes.
