"Deadfolk" is a novel by British author Charlie Williams. In the style of hardboiled crime fiction, the narrative centers on the story of a young thug named Royston Blake and events pertaining to the death of Blake's wife, Beth, in an after-hours fire at a bar. In this lesson, students are introduced to the book and will research and discuss Charlie Williams and the genres of satire and hardboiled crime fiction.
Lesson
1) Teacher Lecture: Introduce the students to the book and author. "Deadfolk", published in 2004, is a satirical hardboiled crime novel and a part of the Mangel Trilogy, about nightclub doorman Royston Blake and set in the fictional town of Mangel, which is based loosely on Worcester, England.
