Objective

The idea of duties is one that comes into play at many times during this novel. Today's objective is to discuss the role of duty in the story as well as in society today.

Lesson

1. Have each student write out their own definition of duty. And then have students compare it to the definition as listed in the dictionary.

2. In smaller groups, have students discuss the duties they have in their life at the current moment. Why do students feel they have to carry out these duties? Are there ways they get around them?

3. As a class, have students discuss what the classroom duties are. What are the society duties they have to follow? Why creates the idea of duty and its definitions? What is the importance of duty? What are the benefits? The disadvantages?
