Lesson

Lead the class in a discussion of point of view in literature. This novel is told in the third person narrative point of view. Begin with a definition and a clarification of the different perspectives. What can the students observe about the point of view in this story? How does the author use the perspective as voiced through the eyes of an unnamed narrator? Have them point out the examples of this perspective and share with the class.

Divide the class into small groups and have them explore the story from a different perspective. How would the story change? How would it stay the same? Would it be confusing for an author to switch perspectives many times...
