Objective

Historical biography is a type of nonfiction. The introduction of "Crazy Horse and Custer" immediately establishes the book as both biography and history. 1) Class Discussion: Define history. Define biography. What elements in the introduction establish "Crazy Horse and Custer" as history? As a biography? Be specific. What do most stories classified as historical biographies have in common? Discuss the expectations you have about reading "Crazy Horse and Custer," paying particular attention to preconceived ideas about this type of book.

2) Class Debate: Is "Crazy Horse and Custer" primarily a history with biographical elements or a a biography with historical elements? Split the class into two groups. Have each side take a position in this argument, spending approximately 15 minutes organizing their position...
