Objective

Perkins claims that he was an economic hit man. Today's objective is to study the title of the book and what the students believe it means. In addition, the students will research John Perkins.

Lesson

1) Class Discussion: The students should explore what they believe the title of the book signifies. What is a hit man? What is an economic hit man? Do the students think an economic hit man is an actual professional title or one Perkins created?

2) Group Project: Research, via the internet or at the library, the history of John Perkins. Information should include his early childhood, his career moves, and his current life. Ask the students to present information to the class.

3) Individual Writing: Write one page on what events in Perkins' life led him to write this book. Why do students feel this topic is important to Perkins? Why do the...
