· Following the cover, title page, copyright, table of contents, dedication, and epigraph, “The Freeing of Melancholia Bishop” begins with Thurwar being introduced to her first fight in Chain-Gang All-Stars, the setting described.
· Loretta refuses to be assigned a stage-name, to the amusement of Wright, and she muses on her situation as preparations for the fight continue.
· Wright interviews Bishop, who is described as a reigning champion on the verge of winning her freedom.
· Final preparations for the fight are made, and the fight begins: “The women were released upon each other” (6).
