Objective

Objective: Act 1 The students will be able to identify writing techniques involved in developing the scene.

1) Possible Activities:
* Have the students identify specific language from the play which the author uses to set the scene.
* Ask the students to identify the setting of the play. Then have the students describe orally how they are able to so accurately describe the scene. Have them identify how the author uses words to develop the setting.
* Have the students draw pictures/create models to describe the setting for much of the play (e.g. the restaurant).

Homework

Have the students write a paragraph describing the scene if they were writing a novel which took place mostly in the classroom

Challenge

Have the students pretend they will be putting on the novel as the school play that spring. What materials, supplies, etc. would be needed to create the backdrop and stage...
