Lesson 1 (from Part I (Round 1 - Round 4))

Objective

The objective of this lesson is for students to compare and contrast the characters of Julio (Chino) and Sapo (Enrique). Julio and Sapo are good friends from the same Spanish Harlem neighborhood, and they attended high school together. But as young adults, their paths have diverged significantly. Julio is married, going to college, and has a baby on the way. Sapo works for the neighborhood kingpin drug dealer, Willie Bodega, who is also sometimes benevolent to young Latinos. Julio is trying to make it on the straight and narrow path, while Sapo has chosen to turn to criminality.
