"Bird" is a young adult fantasy novel written by Rita Murphy and published in 2008. The novel is told from the point of view of the protagonist, Miranda, who is a slight, bird-like girl that finds herself blown by the wind into the realm of Bourne Manor. At Bourne Manor, Miranda assumes a slave-like role to the oppressive Wysteria, who weighs down the girl with steel boots in order to keep her from flying away. In this lesson, students are introduced to the novel and will research and discuss the biography and works of author Rita Murphy.
