Objective

Objective: Prior to this class students will receive instructions to research the author of Offshore, Human Voices, the Beginning of Spring by Penelope Fitzgerald. They are to take a look at where she was born and raised, the professional writers she grew up around, and who were current when she began her career as an author. They are also to read a short synopsis of the book the next 29 lessons will focus upon. The objective of Daily Lesson #1 is to stimulate student interest in studying The Beginning of Spring.

1) Task #1 - Small Group Activity: In groups of four to six discuss: Penelope Fitzgerald's place of birth and hometown in Great Britain; where she grew up; her family members who wrote professionally, the environment she was raised in; when she began writing professionally; the types of works she switched to following her first decade or so of writing...
