Objective

At the beginning of this novel, Harry is nervously waiting for his wife to come home or call. The objective of this lesson is to evaluate why Harry is introduced to the reader in this way.

Lesson

1) Class discussion: What time of day is it in the beginning of Chapter 1? Why can't Harry sleep? Why is Harry worried about his wife? When was she supposed to be home? Where might she be? What makes Harry worry most about his wife? What does this reveal about Harry? How does he feel about his wife? What does he consider doing to help find his wife? What concerns Harry most? What interrupts Harry's concern? What makes Harry stop thinking about his wife? How does he continue to worry about her while doing his work?
