An Ice Cream War tells the story of how World War I affects the lives of many characters in both Europe and Africa. The characters include British, German, and American characters, both men and women. These characters are pulled into a war they do not fully understand and their lives are forever altered. The objective of this lesson is to examine the historical context of the time and what influence it has on the events in the novel.

Lesson

1- Lecture: Prepare a lecture on World War I, including the following key issues:

• Geographical overview of countries involved in the war

• Reasons for the war

• TImeline: as the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, entry of allied forces, end of war

• Imperialism in Africa
