Objective

The scene in which Price teases the homeless man with money seems to set a dark tone to the book as a whole. Today's objective is to discuss this scene with the homeless man and what it seems to say about the people in this novel.

Lesson

1. Have each student make a list of all of the reasons why the homeless man might be homeless.

2. In smaller groups, have students discuss whether they think it's right to give money to the homeless. Why or why not?

3. As a class, have the students discuss what they think of Price after reading the scene with the homeless man. Did the students find this scene amusing? Why or why not? What does this action seem to say about Price and his attitude toward others?
