Lesson

1) Library Research: Have the students research the author, Nick Hornby. Explore the other works he has written, as well as his background. Take a look at interviews and Hornby's website to gain information on his writing and where "About a Boy" fits in with his other works.

2) Presentation: Have students get into pairs and prepare a presentation, using their research on Hornby and his canon. Have each group read an excerpt from different works written by Hornby during their presentation. At the end of the presentations, have students compare the tone and style of "About a Boy" with Hornby's other works.
