Essay Topics

Write an essay for ONE of the following topics:

Essay Topic 1

Write an essay on the dynamics of growth for a community. Using Willstown as an example, explain the growth in terms of available jobs, the ratio of girls and ringers (cowboys), and opportunities for future development. A reverse approach to this topic might also include how once thriving cities and towns begin to deteriorate when businesses fold or relocate to another area or country.

Essay Topic 2

Write an essay on traditional folk medicine. In your essay write about home cures and medications that were used long before the pharmaceutical business evolved. Express to what extant you think some of those traditional remedies may be useful today. Discuss in your essay the current problem with misuse of prescription drugs and how natural remedies and preventatives do not pose that same problem.

Essay Topic 3

Write an essay on the importance of gathering facts and making plans before attempting a project. Use Jean Paget and Mr. Strachan in your essay as examples. Do not forget to mention the planning that went into his trip to Australia. Make this essay a comment on the potential pitfalls of impulsive action. Some examples you might want to use include people who go out in boats without flotation devices, hikers who go out without water and first aid supplies, etc.
