Ask students to look in their local newspaper for an article that involves some aspect of the novel and bring it to class. They will present it in front of the class and explain why it relates to the novel.

Draw a Character

Have students draw their interpretation of a character from the novel. Artistic ability is not important, but their drawings must reflect the type of costume worn by the character, whether the character is fat or thin, bald, prim or slovenly. What colors do the characters wear?

Musical Instruments

Give students an opportunity to locate and bring to class one of the Indian musical instruments described in the book. Alternately, students may locate traditional Indian music and present it for the class.
