Objective

Van's vision of Glenmerle reflected his boyhood, not the current owners. The objective of this lesson is to analyze Van's vision of Glenmerle.

Lesson

1) Class Discussion: Where was Glenmerle? Why was Glenmerle important to Van? Why did Van return to Glenmerle? What was the first thing Van notices about Glenmerle? What did Van think about the new owners of Glenmerle? How did Van picture Glenmerle in his mind? How did this differ from the reality? What did Van say he remembers most? What emotions did Glenmerle remind Van of? How did Van describe his vision of Glenmerle? How did Van describe his relationship with Glenmerle?

2) Group Work: In groups, students will make a poster that shows how Van perceived Glenmerle. Posters should reflect the five senses and Van's emotional response. Groups should share their work with the class.
