Monks on the Scottish island of Iona begin what is now known as the Book of Kells, an illuminated manuscript of the four Gospels in the ornate Celtic style. After Vikings (Norsemen) raid the island in 802, the book is taken to the Abbey of Kells in Ireland, where it is probably completed.
