Esther Hill Hawks

Having volunteered for "front-line" duty, Dr. Esther Hawks was shipped south to General Hospital Number 10 for Colored Troops, which was directed by her husband, Dr. J.M. Hawks, and was the first such hospital established by the federal War Department.
