Arsenic and Old Lace is a funny, intelligent mystery-comedy. Viewers are never sure what to expect next with this film. First, Mortimer is hiding from reporters while getting a marriage license, and then he finds a dead man in his aunts' window seat. From there, things become even stranger as Mortimer's brother Jonathan reappears.
Although Frank Capra is best known for his Christmas drama It's a Wonderful Life, his comedies such as Arsenic and Old Lace are classic. This film touches the hearts of all people because most have some type of semi-crazy person in their family. Everyone understands the exaggerated plight of Mortimer and laughs hysterically when the film finally comes to a close.
