There are different biological effects that occur when human bodies are exposed to radiation from a nuclear blast. When we are exposed to the radiation, the body will absorb some of the energy. There are different types of radiation, which are not all equally dangerous. Biological effects from radiation are divided into the two categories of acute radiation illness and long term effects.

Acute radiation illness is caused by strong doses of radiation. Acute radiation can affect large populations, and ruin the production of blood corpuscles in spinal marrow. Some symptoms are nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Infections that may eventually have fatal results will develop over a length of time as the immunity defense is put out of action. At strong doses of radiation, death may occur within forty-eight hours, because of destruction to the nervous system.
