Winter in Paradise Overview
In the novel Winter in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand, the initial novel in the Paradise series, Irene Steele is devastated when she learns that Russ, her husband of more than 30 years, died in a helicopter crash in the Virgin Islands. She is even more devastated because she did not realize her husband was in the Virgin Islands. When Irene and her grown sons, Baker and Cash, fly to St. John to claim Russ’ ashes, they find even more about Russ that takes them by surprise. Meanwhile in St. John, love waits for Irene, Baker, and Cash. Themes in the novel include the danger of keeping secrets, the suspicion surrounding Russ’ death, and Irene’s growth through her tragedy.
