The Trees Overview

Percival Everett’s The Trees is a novel that combines elements of police procedurals, satire, slapstick humor, ghost stories, historical fiction, and zombie apocalypse entertainment. In a plot that addresses the history of lynching in the United States, Everett follows detectives Ed Morgan and Jim Davis as they investigate the murders of men related to the perpetrators of a well-known incident of racial violence in the town of Money, Mississippi. In a fast-moving, dialogue-rich style, Everett explores themes of everyday racism, historical scholarship, masculinity and racism, and ongoing racial violence.
