“The Curator Speaks in the Department of Dead Languages” is a grounded science fiction poem by Megan Arkenberg that explores the loss of prehistoric cultures. It first appeared in Strange Horizons in 2011. The poem opens with the speaker describing the nature of their job, but it soon turns inward to explore the speaker’s own sense of loss and the role of loss in the wider world.
