Love (III) Overview

"Love (III)" is a poem by early modern English poet George Herbert. It was originally published in the posthumous collection of Herbert's poetry entitled The Temple in 1633. Like most of Herbert's poems, "Love (III)" is an example of devotional poetry, or poems that express worship or prayer. The poem dramatizes an exchange between man and divine love, in which the speaker comes to understand God's unconditional love for humanity despite its faults and sins.
