Hope Leslie Overview

Hope Leslie: Or, Early Times in the Massachusetts by Catharine Sedgwick is a historical novel with elements of Shakespearean comedy published in 1827. The novel is set in Puritan Massachusetts and is told from the perspective of a third-person omniscient narrator. The novel follows the relationship between Magawisca, the daughter of the Pequot chief, and the Fletcher family. Ultimately, the protagonist, Hope Leslie, helps save Magawisca from the Boston magistrates and marries her one true love, Everell Fletcher.
