Famous Men Who Never Lived Overview

Famous Men Who Never Lived by K Chess is a science fiction novel imagining the arrival of 156,000 individuals fleeing an apocalyptic event in an alternate universe. Two of these people (known as "UDPs" - Universally Displaced Persons), Helen Nash and Vikram Bhatnagar, contend with their feelings of sadness and alienation while attempting to establish a museum commemorating the culture and history of the alternate universe. Along the way, Helen loses a copy of Vikram's favorite book, which is irreplaceable, because in the timeline of their present universe, the author who wrote it died at age 10. The novel considers themes related to immigration, grief, and the preservation of other cultures.
