Blue is a 2006 novel written by Joyce Moyer Hostetter, It is a work of historical fiction written for middle grade readers as it follows protagonist Ann Fay Honeycutt, a 13-year-old girl who faces many struggles. Ann Fay’s father is shipped off to war, and her younger brother dies of polio all before she comes down with polio herself. The novel is set in 1944 and 1945 in Hickory, North Carolina, a real place that constructed an emergency polio hospital deemed the Miracle of Hickory.
