Martyr Summary

On Lusitania, an emergency meeting has been called in Mayor Kovano's office regarding the piggies's intention to take the descolada into space. Novinha, Ender, the Mayor, the Bishop, Quim, Quara, Ouanda and Grego all attend. Quara's indiscreet conversation with the pequeninos about human plans to eliminate the descolada has caused some forests to begin to fear humans. Grego asks why the hive queen cannot build the colonists a starship to get off planet. Ender explains she is only worried about species' annihilation. Since humans are populous throughout the 100 worlds, her priority will be to save piggies and buggers. Ela suggests she is closing in on a virus to modify the descolada so it will still help piggies regulate their life cycle but also lose its powers of communication and adaptation.
