Chapter 46-50 Summary

Chapter 46, Hollingford Gossips

Miss Phoebe asked Molly if she wanted to go to the bookstore with her. She got the letter with the money in it just in case she saw Mr. Preston, which she did as soon as she walked into the bookstore. Miss Phoebe left before Molly could give the letter to him, but once they were outside Molly told Miss Phoebe she would be right back and ran inside and put the letter in his hand and was out the door before he knew what had happened. Mrs. Goodenough saw her do it.

One evening some of the ladies of Hollingford were playing cards and Mrs. Goodenough told all the ladies that Molly was sneaking around with Mr. Preston. Some of the other women had heard stories of the few times Molly had seen Mr. Preston when she was trying to help...
