Chapter 41-45 Summary

Chapter 41, Gathering Clouds

Mrs. Gibson came home from London where she had a wonderful time, and some time later Cynthia returned also.

Molly and Mrs. Gibson were talking to Miss Brownings and she was telling Mrs. Gibson that Molly needed to be watched carefully and that she was doing so because she was a friend of Molly's mother Mary. Mrs. Gibson took offense to all of this because she always made sure she did the same for Molly as she did for Cynthia. But Miss Browning was talking about the Mr. Preston situation she thought Molly was involved in, and was trying to send Molly a message that she would not allow a marriage between the two of them and would stand up in church if need be. Mrs. Gibson took all this as Miss Browning was saying she was not a good step mother...
