Summary

Two men - The Grand Prince of Moscow named Dmitrii and a monk named Sasha - lament the loss of their enemy, Chelubey. Dmitrii wants to track the enemies down himself, but Sasha says the nearly-destroyed city needs Dmitrii’s guidance to recover. Dmitrii says the Tatars burned his town, but Sasha secretly knows that they were not responsible. The daughter of Sasha’s sister died in the chaos, but Sasha reminds him his sister is the one who saved Dmitrii. Dmitrii says he will give anything to make Sasha’s sister disappear if she tells him how to find the Tartars, but he only knows the male persona Sasha’s sister pretended to be.
