Summary

In “Chapter Seven,” time jumped ahead and Ivy was 26. She worked as a first grade teacher at the Kennedy School in Boston. One of her students, Arabella, was late to be picked up, so Ivy stayed with her. Instead of her usual guardian, Arabella was picked up by her mother’s cousin, Sylvia Speyer. Ivy recognized her as Gideon Speyer’s older sister. Ivy reintroduced herself and asked after Gideon Sylvia invited Ivy to a New Year’s Eve party that Gideon would be attending. Ivy accepted and went home, feeling much better. Her boyfriend, Daniel, had recently broken up with her and she had slept with seven or eight men in December to try and get over him.
