Summary

Section 3: Promise;

Chapters 26-30

Kirby Duncan’s office is in a low rent part of Boston. Eli and Abra pose as potential clients to get information but come away with little. Even Duncan’s residence is in a seedy part of town.

Abra sees Eli’s old house and says he does not belong there anymore. Wolfe is outside waiting for Eli. Wolfe continues to follow Eli. Abra claims that it is harassment.

Eli and Abra visit Hester. Abra blurts out that she loves Eli. Abra tells Eli that he does not have to reply in kind.

Eli and Abra find a secret compartment in a trunk on the third floor. It contains a letter from James Fitzgerald to Edwin Landon. James was Violeta’s son. The letter stated that Violeta was ill and wanted to come home to Whiskey Beach...
