Summary

Pages 146 - 174 -- Mike, his ex-wife Shauna, and their sons, Derek and Tad, all arrive at Jacob's house with wagons of supplies. Jacob and Mike go off to talk, and Mike explains how dire his situation at home is -- there is no food; people were killed in an attempted theft on his street; his house is damaged from the hurricane -- and asks if he and his family can stay with Jacob. Jacob agrees, and although he and Hannah both have doubts, they believe it is the right thing to do. The next day, Mike, Derek, and Tad all help Jacob and his son chop a fallen tree and mend a broken fence.
