Farmington Hills, Michigan

The majority of the novel is set in Farmington Hills, Michigan. This is where Luke and Natalie started their family and raised their children. They moved here after restarting their relationship, meeting again at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Luke’s house

Luke and Natalie’s house is the main setting in the novel. When Luke returns home after Natalie’s funeral, he dislikes the way his mother-in-law cleaned and got rid of the clutter. He returns the baskets full of shoes to the entryway so that it feels like home again, the home he had while Natalie was alive.
