Summary

Chapter 1 starts with Luke pulling into his garage after his wife, Natalie’s funeral after her battle with cancer. Luke noticed his 14-year-old son, Will, had red eyes and noted that he himself was in “the dried up” (3) stage of grief. His nine-year-old daughter May told him she was hungry after they pull into the garage and Will snapped at her and slammed the car door. He told his daughter there was food he could make her and to go inside while he got his sleeping son, Clayton, out of the car.
